Lower the Tax Squeeze

Burlington’s property taxes have climbed more than 26% over the last four years — while neighbouring Oakville held its 2026 increase under 2%. That gap isn’t inevitable; it’s a spending problem. Before Ward 2 residents are asked to absorb another increase, Masha will push for a full line-item audit of city spending, a cap on new discretionary budget add-ons, and a bigger push to grow Burlington’s commercial tax base so homeowners aren’t carrying the load alone.

Protect Our Waterfront

Downtown Burlington is facing pressure for as many as 27 new highrise towers along the waterfront — enough to add roughly 13,000 residents to a core that wasn’t built for it. Masha’s position: growth belongs where the infrastructure already exists, at our GO Station transit hubs — not stacked along Lakeshore in a canyon of towers. She’ll push to finish Burlington’s new zoning by-law with legally binding height and setback caps, and to close the legal loopholes developers currently use at the Ontario Land Tribunal to override Council’s decisions.

Ease the Traffic Squeeze

New Street and Lakeshore Road are already the worst bottlenecks in Ward 2, and roughly $35 million in roadwork is planned for the ward over the next five years — Masha will push to get those fixes delivered faster, not left to slip. She’ll advocate for smart traffic signal technology and an expanded Handi-Van service for seniors, and will protect primary roadway capacity rather than removing car lanes in a city that’s still car-dependent through the winter. Every new highrise downtown means more cars on the same roads — which is exactly why growth needs to go where the infrastructure already is.
